How much does Google earn from your data?

Google doesn't publish a revenue-per-user number, so we derive it and show the working: roughly $325 billion of trailing-year advertising revenue as of Q2 2026, split by Alphabet's own regional accounting, divided by internet-user counts. For a US user that lands near $538 a year — the largest single figure in most people's appraisal.

How Google turns you into revenue

The ledger: $224.5B from Search ads and $40.4B from YouTube ads in 2025, and still accelerating — Q2 2026 alone brought $81.6B of ad revenue, up 14.5% year over year. 48% of Alphabet's revenue comes from the US; divide that US ad revenue across roughly 290 million American internet users and you get about $538 each. The band is wide on purpose: heavy searchers on expensive topics (insurance, law, finance) are worth far more, because Google's real product is your intent, sold at auction the moment you express it.

That's what makes Google's line different from Meta's: it prices what you're about to do, not who you are. A search is a declaration of demand, and search ads on commercial queries clear at dollars per click — which compounds into the largest per-user figure in this collection.

What the price is built on

  • Every search — the highest-intent signal in advertising.
  • YouTube watch and search history, feeding both YouTube and Search targeting.
  • Location history from Maps and Android devices, where enabled.
  • Activity on millions of third-party sites and apps that run Google ad tags.
